SEO, 5 tips that will make a big difference to being found

SEO is like building your online reputation, it is never really done. It is a continual process of tweaking and responding to the changing environment. Small businesses have spent thousands on SEO audits only to find that they need to do it all over again months later. Here are my top tips for ensuring SEO is not a burdeon but a small part of your overall marketing strategy.

1. Invest in taking the time to know what is happening on your site. Using a tool like Hubspot website grader or SEMrush will assist you audit what is working and what is broken.

2. Remove things that slow your page down. Speed is a critical factor with SEO. You can take the Website speed test here.

3. Link to other sites with relevant content. You don't have to always be the expert but you have to know who are the other experts. Linking to their sites will increase your website authority. This will encourage trustworthy sites to link to you.

4. Focus on making your content valuable. Having key words in titles and Alt tags of your imaages is important but shouldn't over state what you are trying to communicate. ensure your content is valuable for your audience and they will share it and engage.

5. Have google analytics in place from day one! If you don't have google analytics and goals set up then you won't know what is workinmg and what isn't. Google Analytics and Google Search Console can provide invaluable information about what you need to focus on. Crazy egg is a tool that will also give you aheads up about your site's activity.
