If you are three months into an agency retainer and you cannot point to a single lead it brought in, you are not alone.
Owners on business forums describe the same pattern. A senior person wins the pitch, a junior runs the account, and the monthly report is full of numbers nobody can explain.
Before you sack them, ask five questions
Who actually works on my account, and how many other clients do they have?
What did my money buy last month, in enquiries or sales, not impressions?
Do I own my ad accounts, my website and my data?
What would you stop doing if this was your money?
What are we testing next, and how will we know if it worked?
If the answers are vague, that is your answer.
Own your accounts
If your Google or Meta ad accounts were set up in the agency’s name, ask for ownership now, while you are still on good terms. Your ad history, your website and your customer data belong to your business, whoever you work with next.
Then decide what you actually need
Sometimes it is an agency. Often it is a clear strategy and two or three things done well, by someone senior who does the work themselves. The goal is not the cheapest option. It is knowing what every dollar is meant to do.
