How to Get ChatGPT to Recommend Your Business

I tested my own business in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity. Asked for a marketing consultant in my suburb, all three named me first. On the questions owners ask before they are ready to call anyone, I was named in 0 of 15 answers.

Here is what I am changing, and what you can copy.

1. Find your questions

Write down the ten things customers ask you before they buy. How much does it cost? How long does it take? Which option is right for me? Those are your prompts.

2. Test them every month

Type each one into ChatGPT and note who gets named. Do it once a month. That is your new search report.

3. Answer each question plainly

Answer each question on your website, in plain words, in the first two lines. One question, one clear answer, and a price range if you can.

4. Get talked about off your website

In my testing, the businesses that got named had reviews, directory listings and local mentions backing them up, not just their own pages.

Same rule, new reader

None of this is new. It is answering your customer’s real question, clearly, where they look. The only thing that has changed is who is doing the reading.
